Academy of Learning is pleased to announce our new course, EHR, Billing and Coding.  This exciting new course introduces you to the concept and fundamentals of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).

Students learn how to choose and implement an EHR in a medical office.  They explore the features and functions of an EHR, including billing and coding, scheduling, and patient registry.

EHR, Billing and Coding combines theoretical and practical hands-on use of an EHR from both administrative and clinical perspectives.  Students are supplied with a textbook and EHR practice software for ongoing reference and homework. 

Topics include:

• Identifying what a medical record is, advantages and disadvantages of EHRs

• Transitioning from paper charts to Electronic Health Records

• Comparing and selecting an EHR vendor and network platform

• Establishing and maintaining a patient registry

• Managing electronic records, and patient scheduling and flow

• Using the EHR for reimbursement and billing

• Understanding provincial coding systems, health insurance plans and codes

• Learning World Health Organization ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes

• Processing billing, fraud and claims abuse

• Identifying and understanding documentation in the EHR

• Understanding privacy and security issues

• Using the EHR for health promotion and patient education

• Providing protocols for specific conditions to be used as physician decision support
